“I don’t understand,” Tina said to Lindy. “Why do you allow them to cheat you?”
Lindy smiled, easing back into all the incidences where her kindness put a knife in her heart. “I didn’t know they were going to cheat me?”
“Really?” Tina said. “Theo, Anne, Rachel, Patty and Sharma, few of the people I know that cheated you more than once.”
“We can’t stop others from cheating us,” Lindy states. “I forgave them twice. I was raised to stop the third knife.”
“What if the first knife had killed you?”
“Death by kindness. I can live with that,” Lindy said giggling.
“You will be death!” Tina reminds her.
“Ah damn!” Lindy release. “Don’t you know kindness protects a kind heart,” she recovered in giggles.
“So, three is death?” Tina asked.
“Yes,” Lindy said, staring as Tina’s eyes popped. Lindy explained, “we were raised not to allow negative situation to rise to stage three. The number three means death in my culture.”
“Why do you allow it? Once should be enough,” Tina states.
“Well,” Lindy articulates, “my grandmother calls it balance. She believes that when we allow balance in, we get more control of the situations or incidences we face daily.”
“How old was she when she died?” Tina demands on the edge of anger.
“A hundred and one!” Lindy shares giggling.
“Damn!” Tina said, nodding, then rebounded with, “I don’t mean to be rude, but if you continue to allow others to cheat you, you will have nothing left,” Tina said annoyed.
“Thank you for caring,” Lindy said with a happy smile. “But I use my kindness with common sense. They lose kindness, honesty, thoughtfulness, love, understanding, patience, which they can’t afford anyway. And are priceless and rare qualities that are dying out in our world, that many people pay for.”
“You know, you are a nut job, but a damn good hearted one,” said returning her smile. “I beg you to stop!” she warned.
“Look,” Lindy adds more, “My nana says, when you are kind, you will be cheated, taken for granted, used and abused by greedy thoughtless humans and sometimes nailed to a cross. The kindhearted humans endure more agony but live better lives. She teaches all her children and grandchildren how to use kindness with common sense. She said kindness took her to 101 years old. After her funeral she appeared in dreams to us and encourage us that she is at a place where cruelty can’t enter.”
“You are scaring the crap out of me,” Tina cried.
“Kindness protects a kind heart,” Lindy repeats. “Plus, I don’t have a lot, but I am never in need.”
“Damn,” Tina said nodding her head. “I always wonder about that.”
“The more I give, the more I get.”
Kindness does protect a kind heart in ways humans can’t understand. Don’t allow others to change your kind heart. Instead, change the negative people.
